FREE printable "To Do" List

Are you obsessed with writing lists?

I write lists to remind myself of my daily goals. Yes, I am completely obsessed with daily goals. Last week I was trying to find my keys in my bag and I could not find them due to the tons of written post it notes everywhere. So I finally decided to design a to do list long enough for all of my tasks and I can keep my bag more organized. This lovely design is property of artbyangeli design. Check out my website for more of my illustrations.

Enjoy!

Summer Dress#3

Summer was great and I can't believe we are ending our summer with hurricane Irene. Wasn't that something?

Anyway, during the month of June I made myself a couple of dresses. But some I wore more than the others. This yellow summer dress was one of the dresses I did not wear as much because it was not so well executed.  The great thing about learning how to sew is that you start with a design in mind, but sometimes you end up with something totally different. However,  you are still happy because somehow you saved the dress from going in the trash. Well, at least in my experience as a beginner.

1. I traced the shape of dress to the fabric
2. Once traced, I cut the pattern
3. Drew the pattern for the top part. (I had to make adjustments to
the pattern because it was too wide on my shoulders and the opening of the neck was too small)
4. Sew top to rest of dress.

Results: FAILED ( the top looked like a spaceship)
I ended up altering the top by cutting and tucking the sides as you see photograph below because the top part was too wide on my shoulders. I could have kept the design I had in mind but it was too much work since I used a liner due to the light transparency of the fabric.

From dress to a top:

Last year on my birthday I received a cute black dress as a gift from my mother, she bought me the right size. However, this dress was cut wide and even though it was a beautiful dress, it was very unflattering on me so I finally decided to alter this dress that has been hanging on my closet for over a year.

My first intention was to add an elastic to the waist of the dress and keep it as a dress. This project was supposed to be super easy and fast. However, it turned out to be a little painful and gave me some chuckles along the way. I cut the dress in 2, then added elastic to the top.  As I started  to sew the top and bottom I made a little mistake. The quick solution was to use a seam ripper but I couldn't find mine so I started to rip the seam by pulling the fabric. Unfortunately, I forgot that I was working with cotton jersey  so I ruined the bottom so now I only have the top part.  :-/

At least I can still wear my beautiful gift and take long walks with my munchkin.

Website Update

Hello again,

My artbyangeli website just got a small make-over by yours truly. Please check out the updates.  :-)

Best Art documentary/Movie: Georgia O'keefe

One lazy afternoon I ended up catching the end of this movie/documentary. The next day, I netflixed it and to be quite honest, I enjoy watching it so much that I can't let the movie go back to it's rightful owner (Netflix).  Georgia O'Keefe is an American artist of the twentieth century. Her work, vibrant cityscapes and still lifes has made her one of the most respected and beloved artist in America.  Even though I was not a huge fan of Georgia O'Keefe at first,  I found this documentary to be quite entertaining and captivating. This movie has captured her life and it's so well done that it makes you search for more about her. I can't wait to learn more about O'Keefe.

How to Make Pants for baby or toddler:

If you have a baby boy, maybe you have noticed that there are no stores that carry boy's clothes that are stylish and at a decent price. Even though now with Haute, Gilt and Zulily in our lives this is all history. It sure makes my life so much easier.

Well, before there were these adorable websites I decided to make pants for my lil' man since I could never find the right pair of pants for the many occasions.  Like I mentioned in my other posts there are no better patterns than an old pair that you no longer use. Trace around it with a sharpie on paper.  Once I had the pattern on paper.  I pinned it to the fabric and cut my pattern out. Keep in mind that you are using the pants as a guide. Your cuts will probably be wider than the pants you are using. You should have 4 pieces.

1. Pair sides and start sewing the outside seam
2. Sew the inside of the pants
3. Next  turn the one right side out and leave the other right side in, line up the edges.
4. Pull the inner leg seam over and it will give you a U shape.  Sew it together.
Turn right side in and you are done!
FYI: Solid lines represent that it has been sewn.

I followed the instructions that I have drawn and was very happy with each pair. I've made corduroys, lounging and casual pants. The options are endless!!  Remember to have fun with it and add your own flares as you get more comfortable.  Check out my results. :-)

It not only looks great, but they fit well! He got to wear his lounging pants pretty often too.  Email me if you have any questions or  suggestions. I always appreciate good tips. Thanks!!!

What's not to like about Etsy?

I adore Etsy. It’s a great place to discover unique décor and original art at affordable prices. I know you have to rummage through lots of bad to get to the good, but perhaps that’s why I love it.
I have been looking for blue glasses but during the hunt I stumbled into this beautiful retro tray in teal. Isn't it lovely?

Can it get any cuter than this?! ;-)

An Ipad stand made out of wood. How cool is this?!

Happy Friday, Friends! I hope you enjoy these favorites.
